Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact at the University of Oregon

Recipient of the 2021 Education Facility Design Award from the AIA, the multi-story Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Impact at the University of Oregon in Eugene is a training center for scientists and students from many disciplines to collaborate and perform research. The main building is composed of wide-flange shape beams and columns. IDS’s scope of work included the detailing of all structural framing, the spiral staircase and other stairs, handrails, and the Franklin Bridge, a tied-arch skybridge with a pair of arches resting on elevated concrete pedestals on both sides of Franklin Boulevard. TEKLA software was used for the preparation of shop and erection drawings, and AutoCAD software was used for the preparation of the spiral stairs. Experienced IDS steel detailers coordinated the detailing along with the other trades and produced deck drawings, elevator drawings, and wood stair drawings.
